Making " Private Benjamin" made Armand Assante flat broke, he had to say no to a lot of other parts, and was competing with actors as Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood about the roles.
Partly he is broke because, he said no to other parts and partly:

He is working with his Mike Hammer role and complains about not getting to know the lady actresses before he has to strip naked and "go to bed with them"

Assante tells he flew almost directly to Paris from Vancouver, British Columbia, where he had just completed another TV movie "Hand of a Stranger". He plunged immediatly into the shedule of 60 to 90 hours a week.
"It's tough on my body" he says but it also gives him a little time with his wife Karen and his little daughter Anya.

"If Shakespeare had lived he would have written solely about Napoleon" Assante states "He has all the tragic flaws of every great hero Shakespeare wrote about - Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, Richard III. There're all in this person. But to write one piece about him is impossible"
Armand Assante believes to understand Napoleon's and Josephine's relationship better one must look back at his childhood. "He was sent to military school when he was 9.
He profoundly loved his mother. His father died soon afterward. What I'm driving at is that Josephine fullfilled in his later life what his childhood was robbed of. That is, a rooted family"

It must have been an impressive view that morning as people opened the newspaper and read this article with the headline: "Making Napoleon Accessible"

The article says more and less the same as the article above.

Armand Assante in
"Paradise and Passion"

Titel: Assante's tired of miniseries

Very fullfilling interview with Armand Assante right after he had finished making "Eternity" but speaking mostly about the working conditions during making "Passion and Paradise" and what he feels of Mini-series.
He would rather like to make a movie.
I was really hard to do the role of the gigolo Count Alfred de Marigny who Armand Assante think was innocent.
He worked hard and alot and right after he got finished with "Jack the Ripper" he went into a 6-month depression.
It worries him that may be some of the best scenes he made in "Passion and Paradise" have been cut out and he is happy for his wonderfull farm upstate, his wife and children Anya 5 y and Alesandra 9 months.."I know when Iīm done working I have a place to go to that I love"

Interview with Catherine Mary Stewart. Gives a fine insight in plot and story.

She says about Armand Assante: "Working with Armand Assante helped my performance. He's a very disciplined actor. He kept me on my toes. You can't let up when you work with Armand !"
